Pink Cup Race Day celebrates 10th anniversary

Tuesday 3 October 2017

THE Pink Cup race day celebrates its 10th anniversary at Luxbet Park Hobart on Sunday with what promises to be the best in the event’s history.

Aimed at raising funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation the event has continued to grow and to date has raised over $236,000 net profit for the NBCF.

The NBCF is the only national body that funds life-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public.

Breast cancer remains the most common life-threatening cancer facing Australian women with one percent of males also diagnosed each year.

Event organiser Judi Adams has been associated with Pink Cup race day since its inception and she has worked tirelessly with a strong band of volunteers to ensure the event remains an integral part of the Tasmanian racing calendar.

“With 8 Australian’s dying each day, the NBCF aspires to see this figure reduced to ZERO deaths from breast cancer by 2030,” Adams said.

“Research is the only way to prevent deaths, and improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated.

“By funding world-class research, NBCF is leading the way in research projects.”

Since 1994, NBCF has awarded more than $140 million to 470 Australian-based research projects to improve the health and well-being of those affected by breast cancer, funding research right across the spectrum – from understanding the fundamental basis of the disease to psychosocial research aimed at improving the quality of life for survivors.

Sunday’s event incorporates silent and loud auctions in between a full day of thoroughbred racing, with all items to support the event donated by local and interstate supporters.

Over the years there have been some sensational items offered for sale by auction and Adams says this year’s offerings are as good as ever.

Jacquelin Robson of Southern Cross Television will MC at the event and Hank Petrusma of EIS Property is the auctioneer.
