Tasmanian racing industry support package update

Tuesday 5 May 2020

Tasracing has updated elements of the industry support package developed in response to the COVID 19 crisis.

It has also formally extended the life of the package for 30 days.

Tasracing CEO Paul Eriksson said the exact time of the extension conditions was obviously dependent on when racing resumed in the state.

“As noted at the outset, the scheme was to be under constant review as circumstances developed,” he said.

“It was important that Tasracing provided funding certainty to industry participants during the shutdown, hence the decision to extend and make other updates.”

Under the updates, the day rate for a thoroughbred horse in work has been reset to $45 plus GST and eligibility for support for the greyhound code has been expanded to included licensed participants.

The scheme is being funded through savings achieved by Tasracing during the shutdown and a loan from the Tasmanian Government that can be drawn down as required.
