Further support for Tasmania’s racing industry

Saturday 1 August 2020

Jane Howlett, Minister for Racing

The Tasmanian Government is committed to supporting the state’s racing industry as we recover and rebuild from COVID-19.

Tasracing is now calling for applications for round 2 of the infrastructure grants program for Tasmanian community racing clubs.

Delivering on our election commitment, the annual $250,000 grants program is designed to help the community racing clubs that are vital for the future growth and development of Tasmania’s racing industry.

The grants can be used to improve racetrack safety and upgrade facilities for patrons and participants. This can be for either existing infrastructure or the building of new infrastructure.

Round 1 of these grants, announced earlier this year, has seen infrastructure projects completed at racecourses around Tasmania including the Burnie harness track, Spreyton racecourse, the Carrick Park pacing track and the North East Pacing Club.

These clubs are supported by dedicated, hard-working volunteers who provide significant contributions to their local communities through their racing clubs.

Importantly, the projects undertaken as part of these grants provide work for local contractors across the state.

Through the support our Government has provided to Tasmania’s racing industry during these challenging times, we are helping to create an environment that promotes growth and sustainability for the future.

Applications open on 3 August and close on 11 September 2020, with successful recipients set to be announced in October this year.
