Tasmanian Guineas meeting postponement

Sunday 27 December 2020

The postponement of the opening meeting of the Thoroughbred summer carnival today at Elwick was disappointing for Tasracing, participants and the Tasmanian Racing Club Tasracing CEO Paul Eriksson said.

“The track had undergone work during December and while the majority of the track is in good condition, some specific areas did not recover to an appropriate level,” he said.

“Tasracing, in conjunction with our track partner Strathayr, will be undertaking an investigation into how the damage occurred and why the track did not recover to the level it should.

“Participants will be compensated under the Postponed and Abandoned race meeting policy.”

Mr Eriksson said Tasracing had recently appointed a dedicated turf manager who would specifically focus on the turf track at Hobart.

Today’s postponed meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, 30 December at Ladbrokes Park Elwick, with race one beginning at 12:40pm on Sky 1.

“With the Tasmanian Derby and Hobart Cup a month away, Tasracing will be working closely with Strathayr staff who will bring in suitably qualified personnel to assist to ensure the track is ready,” Mr Eriksson said.
