COVID Update – 20 December 2021

Monday 20 December 2021

IMPORTANT notice to racing participants in relation to use of masks at Tasracing Venues

As per Public Health advice, as from 12:01am Tuesday 21 December 2021, face masks must be worn by everyone aged 12 and over when in public indoor settings at ALL Tasracing venues.

All licensed participants and members of the public are required to bring their own masks.

There will be a limited supply of masks available at applicable venues in the event a participant or member of the public is unable to source their own mask, or a mask is lost. Priority for the supply of these backup masks will be given to licensed participants.

Face masks are required to be worn in areas such as:

  • Kennels / Jockey Room / Drivers Room / Media Room
  • Race Day Office area
  • All Grandstand areas
  • Stewards Rooms
  • Swabbing Stalls (if 2 or more persons)
  • Ride share (bus at Hobart Greyhound Racing Club for participant transport)
  • Weigh in area

Masks are not required to be worn outdoors, unless attending a large event where masks are already required which will be any event with 1000+ persons in attendance.

You may choose to wear a mask outdoors as an additional safety measure against COVID-19.  Wearing a face mask reduces the chance of passing the virus on to others if a person is unknowingly infected with COVID-19 and helps to protect you against infection.

Masks may be removed to eat or drink but must be put back on immediately after you have finished.  There are certain exceptions to wearing a mask, including for certified medical reasons.  Reasons for not wearing a mask are not always obvious, so please be respectful of others.

There will be several race meetings throughout the Tasmanian Summer Carnival which will be mandatory face masked race meetings (all areas inside and outside) in accordance with advice from Public Health.  These meetings will be communicated to industry in the near future in conjunction with the relevant club.

Mandatory face mask wearing in public indoor settings will be monitored at all race meetings.  Any persons who refuse to comply will be removed from the venue.

For more information on the mask wearing requirement, please see Mandatory mask wearing in public.
