From the CEO’s Desk

Thursday 14 May 2020

I am writing to update you on the latest development following yesterday’s trialling announcement.

After a meeting between the Minister for Racing, Jane Howlett, senior public health officials and Tasracing representatives, it was agreed that north west coast-based racing industry participants can travel to trials (including track gallops and jump outs) at Mowbray, Longford or Elwick.

One of the conditions agreed to that makes this inter-regional travel possible was same day travel – in other words, participants travelling from any region in the state to a trial need to return home the same day and cannot stay overnight.

It was a positive decision that benefits the whole of industry.

More broadly, it is critical that participants strictly adhere to the new COVID-19 operating procedures we are developing for trials, as well as track gallops and jump outs for thoroughbreds.

Tasracing will publish draft trial programs in the next 24 hours.

There will be other decisions taken as we work towards a resumption in racing, which we will communicate to you directly as soon as they are made.
