The provision of appropriate infrastructure to ensure greyhounds are as safe as possible when training or racing has always been an important consideration for Tasracing.
As readers of this column would understand, Tasracing maintains racing tracks and infrastructure in the state, preparing tracks for racing and training to exacting, professional standards.
Tasracing and the Greyhound Reference Group agreed that a loop arm lure would be safer for greyhounds and would be introduced for all races and trials at all three tracks in Hobart, Launceston and Devonport.
In Hobart last night, the loop arm lure was officially adopted for the first time during a race meeting and I am pleased to report that it met all expectations.
Tasracing will now look to introduce an identical loop arm lure at Launceston and Devonport as soon as practical.
This is an excellent outcome and I would like to thank all involved in the work that underpinned the introduction of the new lure.
In other news, following a tender process and consultation with the Jockeys Association, Tasracing will transition Thoroughbred and Harness race day and trial medical coverage from Ambulance Tasmania to Medical Edge.
Medical Edge has been awarded the three-year contract effective from the 1st October 2016.
Tasracing is confident that Medical Edge’s experienced staff will provide the highest level of care and expertise expected by Tasracing and all racing industry participants.
The Medical Edge service will deliver cost savings on a like for like basis to Tasracing and the industry , as well as assuredness of service / attendance at race meetings.
