Information regarding the coronavirus for Tasmanian racing industry participants

Monday 16 March 2020

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is posing challenges to all sections of our community.

Tasracing has been monitoring the situation and consulting with all relevant authorities to ensure we have the most appropriate responses in place.

Our aim is to protect our racing industry and the wider community.

With this in mind, we are taking an approach to minimise the possible spread of the virus, while taking every possible action to ensure racing can continue safely.

Tasracing is undertaking a number of measures with the aim of achieving this goal as follows:

  • We are in discussion with racing clubs to agree on which race meetings are expected to attract greater than 500 spectators and therefore need to be closed to race goers as per the government’s direction. This will be advised via this website and Tasracing’s social media channels as soon as joint decisions are made with the host clubs.
  • We are in constant discussion with the Office of Racing Integrity to ensure the industry takes all appropriate precautions in relation to participant and race day staff health including stewards.
  • For our own staff, we are ensuring any staff who show signs of illness or have traveled overseas stay at home. Further, we are ensuring our working from home processes are in place and clearly understood to ensure continuity of racing administration in the case that Tasracing decides to implement working from home for all staff in order to help slow the spread of the virus.

Our approach and processes will evolve where necessary as we review the Coronavirus situation, including Department of Health advice.

Tasracing will endeavour to keep all industry participants updated as soon as any development occurs which has an impact on racing operations.

Our message to our wagering customers and racing fans locally, nationally and across the world is that Tasmanian racing is currently continuing across all three codes via Sky and Tasracing TV live-streaming.

To racing fans planning future attendance at any of our race meetings, please check the goracingtasmania.com.au website for any updates on whether any future race meetings will be closed for spectators.

If any industry participant or member of the public has any questions on our racing calendar, please email us via racing@tasracing.com.au
