Tasracing has appointed Vaughn Lynch to the position of Chief Executive Officer.
Tasracing chairman Dean Cooper said Mr Lynch would join Tasracing from Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) where he was the General Manager – Operations.
“Tasracing received multiple applications for the position from around Australia and ultimately interviewed four candidates,” he said.
A selection panel comprising two Tasracing Board Directors and Mr Cooper recommended the appointment of Mr Lynch to the Board.
Mr Lynch said he was extremely grateful to the Board of Tasracing for the opportunity and was joining the Company during an exciting phase of its development.
“The company is on a sustainable footing and is now looking to invest in infrastructure across the State,” he said.
Mr Lynch said he was looking forward to meeting and working with Tasmanian racing industry stakeholders.
“My focus will not only be on ensuring the long-term sustainability of the industry but seeing it develop further and thrive,” he said.
In addition to working in the Operations role with HRV, Mr Lynch has held positions within the organisation including sales and sponsorship, racing, infrastructure and strategy.
He was the General Manager of the Geelong Harness Club immediately prior to joining HRV, and worked in the private sector for nearly ten years after graduating from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Business (Finance).
Mr Lynch said he been connected to the racing industry in “one way or another” for his entire life.
“My father trained greyhounds and my uncle and grandfather trained thoroughbreds, so I have been around racing for most of my life,” he said.
“I have also owned and raced greyhounds and thoroughbreds, and a seven time Group One winning harness horse, Young Rufus.”
Mr Lynch, who replaces former CEO Dr Eliot Forbes, will officially join Tasracing in early December, 2016.
Mr Cooper thanked Interim Chief Executive Officer, Mark Tarring who has occupied the position since Dr Forbes departed in August.
