Industry Training

Effective from 1 August 2013, the following four unit skill set will replace the requirement for participants to complete RGR30208 – Advanced Stablehand.

This skill set has been identified as the minimum requirement for harness trainers and drivers:

  1. RGRCOMN001A – Comply with the Rules of Racing and other related protocols
  2. RGRPSH203A – Perform basic driving tasks
  3. RGRPSH201A – Handle Horses
  4. RGRCM201A – OHS Procedures and Observe Environmental Work Practices

The licensing requirements for a stablehand remains unchanged and this requires the completion of the two unit skill set , RGRPSH201A – Handle Horses and RCM201A – OHS Procedures and Observe Environmental Work Practices

For participants who intend to upgrade their license from a stablehand category to trainer or driver, this process will  require completion of the two additional units of competency, RGRCOMN001A – Comply with the Rules of Racing and other related protocols and RGRPSH203A – Perform basic driving tasks to complete the four unit skill set.
