A VITALLY IMPORTANT TASMANIAN INDUSTRY
One in 10 Tasmanians attend a race meeting each year, and spend more than $10.5 million on attending races, buying clothes to wear to races, and on accommodation when attending races.
The Tasmanian racing industry contributes $103.1 million in economic input into the Tasmanian economy and sustains about 1,000 full-time equivelent jobs – the majority in rural and regional areas.
More than 5,500 people are employed or are direct participants in racing in Tasmania.
Owners invest more than $40 million in the preparation of racehorses and greyhounds for racing, and breeders invested more than $13 million in the production of racehorses and greyhounds for racing.
