Harness Program Adjustments

Temporary harness program adjustments need to be introduced for the last two months of this financial year (up to 30 June 2017).

This year there has been a higher demand for races than anticipated and acceptances have been strong which is a positive sign for the harness code.

The temporary amendments will ensure budgetary discipline is maintained.

The changes involve the deletion of 13 races between 12 May and 30 June (see below for more information). A maximum of one race has been deleted at each meeting and $3,300 races will be conducted when sufficient acceptors are received to justify dividing a race.

In all cases, horses that could have accepted for these races will have other racing options at that race meeting.

In addition, the deleted races are spread across a variety of classes but no change has been made to two-year-old or open class races.

It is anticipated that the actual number of harness races for the financial year will still exceed the total conducted last season by 15 – 20 races.

From 1 July 2017, usual harness programming will resume.

  • Launceston – 28 May – LNC28051706 – Mares. C1/C2 (MS)
  • Launceston – 2 June – LNC02061704 – 4YO+ NMT 2 LTW’s
  • Hobart – 4 June – EHC04061703 – CO. EHC04061702 (3C0/3C1) changed to include C0 horses.
  • Devonport – 9 June – DVC09061708 – Claimer (SS)
  • Hobart – 11 June – EHC11061709 – C6/C10 (MS). EHC11061708 changed from C4/C5 to C4/C6.
  • Launceston – 18 June – LNC18061704 – Mares. C0/C1 (MS)
  • Hobart – 23 June – EHC23061706 – C2 (MS). EHC23061705 changed from C1 to C1/C2.
  • Devonport – 25 June – DVC25061702 – Fillies and Mares. 3C0/3C1/C0 (MS)
  • Devonport – 30 June – DVC30061708 – Claimer (MS)

Rescheduled Races:

Races, which were deleted earlier in the season, have been rescheduled as follows:

  • $10,000 Tasmanian Guineas (3YO) – TPC 4 June 2017
  • $10,000 3YO Fillies Feature – TPC 4 June 2017
  • $12,000 Island Block and Paving Golden Slipper (2YO) – LPC 30 July 2017
