From the CEO’s Desk – Greyhound straight track complete

Tuesday 16 May 2017

Tasracing is delighted to announce the construction of the new greyhound straight track at Ulverstone is now complete and the track is operational. This was constructed to provide north west coast-based trainers with additional training facilities.

The track replaces the old training track at Penguin after the land on which it was located was rezoned for residential use.

Located at the end of River Road on land leased from the Central Coast Council, the 250-metre long / 6-metre wide track was designed by 6ty Degrees Engineering Consultants and is in line with specifications developed by the NWGRC trainers consultation group.

The track was licensed by the Office of Racing Integrity (ORI) at the end of April, and handed over to the North West Greyhound Racing Club (NWGRC) the following day.

The NWGRC is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the facility which is maintained by Tasracing with assistance from NWGRC members.

The main features of the new track are:

  • 150mm thick sand profile surface (sand selected by the NWGRC).
  • Fully automated irrigation system.
  • Covered area at one end with a two-bay starting box.
  • Security cameras.

It is very pleasing to note that early reports from north west trainers about the track have been extremely positive.
