Greyhound Programming Update

Following recommendations from the Programming Sub Committee, Tasracing has made amendments to remove the requirement of separate reserves for Grade 5 races, provide for an additional Masters race or Maiden race when called for, require greyhounds to contest and complete a race in a series before being eligible to further contest that series, conduct qualifying trials over the sprint distance at Launceston and for Maiden races to be programmed on a fortnightly basis where practical.

The Office of Racing Integrity has been advised that the programming of the OzChase system to provide for the division of grade 4 and 5 races by the number of wins is now not likely to be available until after April 2018.

Details of the amendments effective from 1 November 2017 are as follows:

Minimum Nominations Policy:

Clause 2.1 – Amended to read:

Except as detailed in the Feature Events policy, no race, except for Mid Distance races, Distance races or Mixed Grades 2/3, Mixed Grades 1/2 or Invitation races shall be scheduled to be conducted unless there are at least 8 eligible nominations.

Clause 2.3 – deleted.

Clause 2.4 – Amended to read:

It is permissible for a race with less nominations than stipulated in Clauses 2.1 or 2.2 to be scheduled if, after the closing of nominations which have been extended, it is required to provide 10 races at a meeting.

Clause 2.5 – Amended to read:

If the races called for are not conducted due to a lack of nominations, then the races to be scheduled to provide 10 races on the programme shall be selected in the following order

  • An additional mid-distance race (for the grade called for)
  • An additional Masters race (on the conditions called for)
  • Mixed Grades 1 & 2 (sprint)
  • Grade 3 (sprint)
  • Invitation or Mixed Grade 2 & 3 (sprint)
  • Grade 6 – sprint
  • One additional Maiden race (if called for)
  • Mid Distance Race
  • Grade 4 (sprint)
  • Mixed Grades 3 & 4 (sprint)
  • Mixed Maiden/Grade 6 (sprint)
  • Grade 5 (sprint)
  • Mixed Grades 5 & 6 (sprint)
  • Mixed Grades 4 & 5 (sprint)
  • Short Sprint Races

Feature Races Conditions

The following clause is deemed to be included in and form part of the conditions of any series conducted in Heats and a Final:

Except in the case of a No Race or an abandoned race a greyhound must contest and finish in a heat before being eligible for and/or listed in the field to contest the Final.

The following clause is deemed to be included in and form part of the conditions of any series conducted in Heats, Semi Finals and a Final:

Except in the case of a No Race or an abandoned race a greyhound must contest and finish a race in a series before being eligible for and/or listed in the field of a further race in that series.

Race Programming Policy

Clause 2.1.2 – Amended to read:

Launceston trials will be over both the Sprint and Short Sprint distances with every third rotation being over the Sprint

Amend Clause 2.8 to 2.9 and add new clause 2.8:

A Maiden race will be programmed where practical each fortnight on a rotation basis between tracks.

 

The programming will continue to undergo review and development and Trainers are encouraged to provide written comments and/or suggestions for improvement to their Club or Tasracing to assist in this development process.
