TASMANIAN thoroughbred racing has found two new spots on the night racing calendar with two additional night meetings scheduled to be run in Launceston in March and April.
The first is scheduled for Saturday 9 March and the second on Saturday 6 April, with both meetings to be broadcast on Sky 1.
Tasracing has requested the meeting start as early as possible in order to gain maximum exposure on the back of Group 1 racing in other parts of the country on those days.
The thoroughbred meetings will fit well with the March 16 Tasmania Cup harness meeting in Hobart to give the state solid Saturday night Sky 1 exposure over a five-week period.
The two meetings in March don’t clash with the AFL main roster, which promises to positive from a wagering perspective.
The Tasmania Turf Club and the Tasmanian Trotting Club have put their full support behind the Saturday night meetings.
The Saturday night thoroughbred meetings have eventuated as part of the rescheduling of southern gallop meetings due to the Elwick thoroughbred track redevelopment commencing immediately after the 2019 Hobart Cup.
