TASMANIA’S thoroughbred Horse of the Year and Hall of Fame gala event has become a must attend function and this year’s edition is no exception.
Mystic Journey looks certain to take out the title of Horse of the Year for season 2018-19, given her impressive performances at home and interstate.
But will Star Thoroughbreds’ filly Deroche draw enough votes in the 2YO category to topple Mystical Pursuit that was undefeated from four starts.
The three-year-old title is also likely to go to Mystic Journey who is also likely to take out the best filly or race mare award.
Needless to say it is going to be a big night for Mystic Journey’s trainer Adam Trinder and the mare’s owner Wayne Roser.
Scott Brunton has won the trainer’s premiership for the fifth time in his own right and Craig Newitt almost reached 100 winners to make it back-to-back jockey premiership seasons, so both of these high achievers will be there to accept their trophies.
Alex Patis won the apprentices title in what ended up being a three-way charge for the honour.
There will be plenty of interest in the breeding awards this year with Armidale Stud’s star stallion Needs Further likely to figure prominently.
Hall of Fame inductions this year look set to be fan favourites with some perennial favorites of the training and jockey ranks set to finally receive the ultimate accolade for their efforts during decades of participation.
The event will be held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Launceston on Friday, September 13.
Tickets are available at $90, which includes food, entertainment and a complimentary drink on arrival.
