A traditional lead up to the Ladbrokes Hobart Thousand is the Hobart Thousand Awards dinner, featuring the unveiling of the latest inductees into the Tasmanian Greyhound Hall of Fame.

The hall of fame includes a number of Tasmania’s greatest stars of the track, including dogs, trainers, owners and other participants in the industry.

This year’s inductees again prove the high calibre of greyhound racing in the state. View the Tasmanian Greyhound Hall of Fame here. This year’s inductees are:

Greyhounds

Coven Vista

The great black staying bitch of the 1970s, Coven Vista, certainly took the path least travelled to make it into the Tasmanian Hall of Fame. Bred and owned by Hall of Famer Hilda Williamson, Coven Vista was a May 1974 product of Witches Coven and Sunny Vista. The otherwise modestly performed litter, did include useful types in Caroline Doll and Cliff Floyd’s Coven’s Twin, with Coven Vista making her debut for Hilda Williamson in a White City juvenile on October 3 1975. Bell Haven

Bell Haven, or “Ellie”, is trainer Ted Medhurst’s second chaser, alongside Buckle Up Wes, to make Hall of Fame status. She came from the somewhat unfashionable but amazing April 2010 mating of Head Bound – It’s A She. This brilliant litter of seven high-class pups went on to win 114 races between them and accumulated over $608,000 in prize money. Trainers

David and Margaret Crosswell

The prolific achieving husband and wife team of David and Margaret Crosswell, now tick the final level of attainment in greyhound racing, with their joint induction into the Hall of Fame. From a most humble beginning in the mid-1960s, their wide-ranging success both here and at the highest mainland level, and in excess of five decades, has been truly remarkable.
