Latrobe breeder-owner-trainer Larry Nichols has a special affinity with the stock of the Artsplace import Modern Art.
Nichols and his wife, Elizabeth, long-time participants in harness racing, enjoyed an unprecedented wave of success a few years ago with one of Modern Art’s greatest sons, Modern Ruler. In a career spanning nine seasons the gritty gelding totted up 20 wins in Tasmania and NSW, took a record of 1:53.1 and earned $190,641 in stakes.
The Nichols are offering a full sister to Modern Ruler as Lot 15 at the Tasmanian Harness Sale at Carrick Park on Saturday.
The brown long-barreled filly is the seventh foal of her dam, Lady In Charge (by Fake Left), who has left four winners from four to race, Besides Modern Ruler, she is also the dam of the Evicus and Granny Smith placegetter Tambros Milly, Major Ruler (8 wins and $46,052) and Jasper Ruler.
Keppel Bay, Jilliby Jitterburg, Blatant Lie and Mr Nickel, all winners of the Australian Pacing Gold, the Edgar Tatlow winner Miss Toliver and Jilliby Bandit ($184,159) are members of the same family as Lot 15.
