Noel Salter has a pedigree in harness racing that easily matches the quality presentation of his two-strong draft for the Tasmanian Harness Yearling Sale at Carrick on Sunday, March 12.
In years gone by, Salter trained a strong team at Brighton assisted by his late wife, Marlene, before branching out into the administration side of the sport. He was a committeeman with the Tasmanian Pacing Club in Hobart for 20 years during which time he stood 12 years as president. He later became president of the now-defunct Tasmanian Harness Racing Board and served as vice president of Harness Racing Australia.
Noel and Marlene bred and owned a string of top performers including the Raider Stakes winners On Parade and Vinokourov, Galdeano and the Dandy Patch winners Foxfighter, Chippolini, Ogrady and Boasson Hagen.
The 2017 Tatlow medallist, Noel’s consignment is both by the all-American bred The Storm Inside, and from the first crop of the former Australian 2YO Colt of the Year who was undefeated in his first 11 starts.
Both are well-grown and well-mannered and descend to Salter’s prized matron Rosie Heir.
Lot 8, a bay/brown filly, is the first foal out of the Mach Three mare Itswhatilikeaboutu, a placegetter in the Evicus Stakes, Blue Bonnet and Tasmanian Fillies Championship. Itswhatilikeaboutu ranks as a half-sister to the Group winners Vinokourov ($105,088), Ogrady ($85,341) and Boasson Hagen, being out of the smart race mare Allsorosie, by Safely Kept from Rosie Heir.
The second youngster, Lot 28, is a bay/brown gelding out of Western Cheater, by Western Terror from Cheatin Heart, a sister to Allsorosie, the grand dam of Lot 8. Western Cheater, dam of the three-year-old winner Roll West, is a half-sister to the Golden Slipper placegetter Kwiatkowski and Cool Wharton (8 wins).
