For the first time in 2024, the Ladbrokes Community Sports Series (LCSS) came to Hobart Cup Day, and it delivered a grandstand finish.
14 southern sporting clubs had the opportunity to win $10,000, and three of them were left sweating on the outcome of the photo finish for Sunday’s 1400m benchmark 60.
The photo went the way of Princess Matoaka, who delivered $10,000 to the Colebrook Golf Club.
“We’re absolutely thrilled,” said Jeff Weeding on behalf of an ecstatic group representing the golf club.
“The funds will go towards some new machinery, maybe a greens mower.
“It means a lot to the club; we’re all volunteers. Nobody gets paid up there,” Jeff added, with the club having around 125 members on the books.
While the major spoils went to the Colebrook Golf Club, all 14 sporting clubs received a minimum of $500, along with 10 tickets for the club to enjoy a great day at the races.
“It’s been a great concept to be involved with, and the engagement we saw in Devonport, we thought, let’s roll it out to all the Cup Days,” said Ladbrokes Executive Director of Stakeholder Engagement, Karl deKroo.
“I love that community involvement, and we’re bringing a whole lot of new people to the races.”
The Ladbrokes Community Sports Series concludes on Launceston Cup Day, where a 1200m benchmark 64 is the dedicated race for 14 northern sporting clubs.
