Seydoux cooks for North Launceston Bowls Club

Monday 4 March 2024

The 2024 Ladbrokes Community Sports Series (LCSS) concluded on Launceston Cup Day, where the North Launceston Bowls & Community Club were the last major recipient, courtesy of the win of Seydoux in the fourth race of the program.

In total, $76,000 has been shared between 40 sporting clubs across Tasmania during the LCSS, with three separate $10,000 grand prizes going to winning clubs on Devonport, Hobart, and Launceston Cup Days.

Following the wins of the Turners Beach Cricket Club (Devonport Cup) and Colebrook Golf Club (Hobart Cup), it was North Launceston Bowls & Community Club who relished the success of Seydoux in Launceston.

“It’s unbelievable, I can barely talk. I’ve shouted that much and got her home,” said Maree Peck on behalf of the winning club.

Peck is the cook at the Bowls Club and says her area of the operation may be the biggest recipient of the $10,000 prize.

“I’m the cook there, and I’ve seen the floor, and it needs doing badly.

“It’s probably needed doing for the last six years, and without this, we would’ve had to wait a few more years,” said Maree.

Sent out as a $5 chance, Seydoux led from start to finish, defeating Sistine ($8.50) by half a length, with the same margin back to Cheeky Word ($21) in third.

The LCSS has added enormous colour and excitement to all three major Tasmanian Cup Days, with the clubs involved sending a team of 10 to enjoy the race day.

More than 150 sporting clubs across the state nominated to be involved with the 2024 LCSS, and the 40 clubs lucky enough to receive a horse on the three Cup Days received a minimum of $500.
