Prominent north-western horsewoman Susan Maine and her daughters Melissa and Lisa have thrown their support behind the 2019 Tasmanian Harness Yearling Sale to be held at Carrick on Saturday, February 16.
Their three-strong draft is headed up by a superbly bred colt by champion sire Bettor’s Delight, from a maternal family chock full of ‘black type’ Victorian winners.
Out of the 10-win Safely Kept mare Vernett, the colt ranks as a half-brother to four sub 2:00 performers and belongs to the same tribe as the Vicbred champion Ladyzain, the Melton Plate victor Jamyan Prince and the dual Vicbred heat winner Go Gamma.
The Maine family has also nominated geldings by the Inter Dominion and Little Brown Jug winner Mr Feelgood and the USA 3YO Colt of the Year Heston Blue Chip, both from leading Tasmanian tribes.
The Mr Feelgood gelding, nominated by Lisa, comes from a family with a very high percentage of winners-to-foals.
Goldleaf Art, the dam of the yearling, has left four winners from four starters, the grand-dam Beaconsfield Gold produced three winners from three to race, while the third dam, Apple Cake threw four winners from six starters.
Apple Cake, who listed the Danbury Park Cup among her 23 successes, figures as the dam of the brilliant racemare Shezallapples, winner of the NSW 2YO Breeders Challenge and a heat of the Victoria Oaks.
While, the Heston Blue Chip gelding is out of the Granny Smith winner Tisu Holly, a half-sister to the former top South Australian juvenile Duomo and from the same family as the Auckland Cup winner Captain Harcourt.
