Tasmanian Harness Racing lost one of its greats on Friday with the passing of Henry Pullen aged 87.
Pullen, a successful trainer and driver was awarded Tasmanian Harness Racing’s highest honour when he was named the 2010 Edgar Tatlow Medalist.
He won the states drivers title on two occasions in 1971 (tied with Terry Peck) and 1978.
In an interview in 2016 he rated Golden Alley as the best horse he drove.
He was successful aboard the pacer on 44 occasions including the 1969 A G Hunter Cup at the Melbourne Showgrounds, the 1967 Tasmanian Pacing Championship when starting off a handicap of 60-yards, plus two Easter Cups in 1967 and 1968 when winning off 72 yards.
Pullen also won the Tasmanian Championship on a further two occasions in 1979 with Paleface Tiki and in 1981 with Fair Clue
The best horse he said he trained was Scott Arma, closely followed by Devil Demon, Martha Jay and Daman who won two Devonport Cups with Henry’s son Ray training him to the first of those victories in 2003 and Henry training him to win in 2005.
A service for Pullen will take place on Thursday, March 7 at the Elwick Racecourse commencing at 11:30 am.
