Tasracing’s Off The Track program assists in the transition of retired thoroughbred and standardbred horses to equestrian and pleasure pursuits, and provides support for their ongoing wellbeing. Tasracing facilitates monthly clinics for the education of newly retired horses and those who have had little or no re-training. The clinics also provide support, education and mentoring to riders.
We are currently seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified equestrian coaches and horse trainers to facilitate the Off The Track (OTT) clinics across the State. We are looking to engage 5-6 as independent contractors to facilitate monthly clinics in the South and North and potentially the North West of the State.
Reporting to the Animal Welfare Manager and as members of the wider Off The Track team, your key accountabilities will include:
- Coordinate and attend full-day OTT clinics by providing mentoring, coaching and education to both the horse and rider;
- Assess ability of rider and match with a safe and appropriate horse;
- Provide regular and consistent feedback for development to riders;
- Actively participate in monthly OTT meetings, planning sessions, operating procedure and policy development (approximately 2 hours a month).
Key Criteria:
- Demonstrated commitment to equine welfare practices, and a professional, respectful and proud attitude towards the racing industry;
- Strong equine background, with demonstrated experience in the education and training of thoroughbred and standardbred horses;
- Proven ability to create and maintain a safe environment for both riders and horses;
- Excellent communication skills, applicable and relatable to equine enthusiasts of all levels;
- First Aid Certificate (or willing and able to obtain)
- Working with Children and Vulnerable People Card (or willing and able to obtain)
- Public Liability Insurance to the value of $20 million (or the ability to obtain)
- Flexible in terms of availability, especially in facilitating full-day clinics on weekends;
- Current drivers licence and access to own vehicle; and
- Physical ability to safely undertake manual work and handle horses.
Desirable:
- EA NCAS coaching accreditation or training licence
- Generalist experience across a broad range of equestrian activities
- Cert IV Training and Assessment
- Intermediate MS Office, email and internet proficiency
