Well known Brighton breeder Noel Salter has nominated two royally bred yearling fillies for the Tasmanian Harness Sale to be held on Saturday, February 15 at Carrick Park.
The pair are the last foals bred by Salter, one of Tasmania’s leading breeders, owners and officials who is retiring from the sport after more than 35 years.
“They’re both by young sires out of young mares from good winning families,” Noel said.
Lot 20, a brown Betting Line filly out of the Western Terror mare Western Cheater, is rated highly by the astute Salter.
“She’s the most magnificent filly I’ve ever bred,” he stated.
“Her dam had high speed but was highly strung and never raced.”
This is her third foal.
The filly’s grand-dam, Cheatin Heart, was a sister to the prolific broodmare Allsorosie, who left seven individual winners including three Tasmanian Sires Stakes champions in Vinokourov, Ogrady and Boasson Hagen.
The second of the Salter draft is Lot 7, a well-grown filly by champion sire Rock N Roll Heaven out of the former Tasmanian 2YO of the Year Cloudy Delight.
By Bettor’s Delight, Cloudy Delight won six races as a two-year-old including the Evicus Stakes, Tasmanian Sweepstakes, Blue Bonnet and a heat of the Breeders Crown.
“Her first foal Van Der Poel has been placed in his only three starts and looks a genuine Derby candidate, while her second foal, a two-year-old colt by Stonebridge Regal, has already qualified,” Salter said.
The family to which the Rock N Roll Heaven filly belongs is noted for the numerous top juveniles it has produced. They include Foxfighter, winner of the Dandy Patch and Debutante Stakes, Fox Port (Tas. Premier Classic and Youthful Stakes), Tony Macarony and others.
Both fillies are eligible for Tasbred and Vicbred.
