Pyengana dairy farmers and hobby breeders Michael and Carol LeFevre have only one entry in Saturday’s Tasmanian Harness Sale at Carrick Park.
But the big, strongly brown colt, Lot 14 in the catalogue, looks certain to attract plenty of interest from discerned buyers both on the score of blood and type.
He’s a product of the former USA 2YO Colt and Aged Male of the Year Sweet Lou 1:47 ($3.4 million), whose first Australasian crop included the multiple Tasmanian classics-winning juvenile Kohanah.
On his dam’s side, the colt also has something in his favour. He’s out of the 2014 Tasmanian 3YO Sales Classic winner Lady Elaine, a descendant of the noted taproot mare Annie Ash to which horses the calibre of Beautide, Ignatius, Swishinova and Bar Ron Boy also belong.
The Holly Sand mare La Rope, the colt’s fourth dam, established a great winning line for the LeFevre family dating back to the late 1970’s. She left three winners including the Tasmanian Diamond and Youthful Stakes placegetter Luther Short and was the second dam of the outstanding racemare Purple Haze, whose 12 successes include the 1994 Hobart Pacing Cup and the 1992 Coastal Pacing Derby.
The colt is eligible for the Breeders Crown, Vicbred and Tasbred.
