The Risk Factor stands in a sweeping, well-maintained property just outside Hobart. He is being groomed and doted on by his carer and namesake Kylie Risk, a former Olympian marathon runner, and neighbour and part owner, Gary Richards.
Kylie’s attachment to the horse is evident, as she divides her time between Fred (as the horse is affectionately nicknamed), and the half dozen other horses in her care.
Fred is owned by a 13-person, predominately Tasmanian Syndicate including a few notable names which include not only Kylie but also former Tasmanian and Australian Cricketer, James Faulkner.
Recently retired as a winner of seven races, as well as a third placing in the 2022 Ladbrokes Launceston Cup, The Risk Factor provided a great ride for all his connections.
“The horse has been good to us,” Gary Richards states.
“He won close to $150k in prize money, has enjoyed racing and obviously loves us.
“We see it as a two-way street, we adore him and we (the syndicate) now intend to give back,” Richards added.
The syndicate intend to find a happy forever home for Fred to transition into a new life and career, whatever that may be.
“We are currently taking the time to watch him, see how he pulls up physically and what he might be suited to,” says Richards.
“At this stage, we are taking the time to give him the care and attention he needs, but I am backing that with his intelligence and love of people, Fred will do well in any number of career opportunities.
