Message to industry – Tasmanian Parliament
Independent Member for Clark Kristie Johnston took the opportunity in the Tasmanian Parliament today to criticise the Tasmanian greyhound racing industry, with a particular focus on welfare, naming a number of participants, including our GAP Co-ordinator Susan Gittus. For the record, Susan is doing an excellent job and enjoys Tasracing’s total support in the work she is doing.
Ms Johnston was joined in her criticism on the industry by Greens Leader Rosalie Woodruff who used her time to be broadly critical of the Office of Racing Integrity and Tasracing.
Of course, Racing Minister Jane Howlett, other Liberal Party members (Simon Wood and Mark Shelton), Leader of the Opposition Dean Winter and JLN Member for Lyons Andrew Jenner rose to speak in favour of the industry, referencing its significant annual economic contribution to the state and that the vast majority of industry participants love their animals.
As is always the case, we stand ready to act in defence of the industry and industry participants to the broader community, but feel there is no benefit on this occasion to provide comment publicly at this stage, other than directly to you.
If that changes, we will let you know and provide you with a copy of what we say.
