Warning off notices statement

Friday 7 June 2024

Tasracing will not issue new warning off notices to the four participants adversely named in the Murrihy Report.

The decision was taken by the Tasracing Board today (7 June).

Tasracing CEO Andrew Jenkins said the company had exhausted all options in an effort to enforce the standards of integrity expected in the harness racing code by its participants and the Tasmanian community.

“It is the Board’s view that any action it takes would likely have a low probability of success and not be deemed reasonable by a Court,” he said.

“Based on the Supreme Court finding handed down by Justice Robert Pearce in April, Tasracing felt it was acting with a strong and reasonable basis for issuing the Warning Off notices.

“Yesterday’s Tasmanian Racing Appeals Board decision is surprising and at odds with that view.

“Nevertheless, Tasracing accepts the decision.”

Mr Jenkins said findings of the report by Ray Murrihy remained under investigation by the appointed Panel of Stewards.

“Tasracing will await that panel’s findings,” he said.
