One of Tasmania’s leading cup class pacers of the early 2000’s was Mountain Glory.
The dual Golden Mile and Easter Cup winner totted up 30 wins and more than $240,000 in stakes and set track records at Moonee Valley and Harold Park during a distinguished racetrack career.
Retired to the stud, Mountain Glory has had limited opportunities to show his worth, siring 15 foals of racing age so far for five starters and four winners.
The Cognac Hanover horse, who stands at Elderslie Horse Care and Spelling, Elderslie, of Sue Streit, has his biggest crop of six yearlings to represent him. And five have been nominated for the Tasmania Premier Yearling Sale to be held at Launceston on Saturday, January 5.
Of the quintet, three colts are being prepared by Streit along with Shirley Williams, the mother of prominent trainer-driver Paul Williams.
All belong to very successful maternal families.
Lot 24 is a lovely colt out of the Panorama mare Woodsdale Scarlett, whose dam ranks as a half-sister to the outstanding racemare Jadah Rose, dam of Victoria Derby aspirant Guaranteed and Jadahson.
The other two colts are both closely related to the top Tasmanian pacers of yesteryear in Northern Brewer, Our Buddy, Tyne Valley and Amapola.
In fact, Lot 39 is a half-brother to the 2009 Tasmania Sires Produce winner Our Sir Lew, a winner of nine races to date.
To complete the Mountain Glory draft at the sale are two fillies, including a daughter of the Tasmanian Sweepstakes winner Kirra Point.
