Tasracing has received a record return from Sky Racing’s international business in FY15, with the industry receiving $473,000.
Sky Racing and Tasracing have a long standing partnership which sees Sky send vision of Tasmanian thoroughbred, greyhound and harness racing to more than a dozen countries around the world including the UK, France, Singapore and New Zealand. Wagering returns from international audiences betting on Tasmanian racing are funneled back to the industry through the partnership.
The record return in FY15 is a testament to the close partnership between Sky and Tasracing and the focus of both parties in promoting the State’s racing abroad.
Tasracing Chief Executive Officer, Dr Eliot Forbes emphasised the importance of the financial returns to the industry and said it has been a team effort.
“While the increased income was the main driver for this market development work, the added benefit of international exposure for Tasmanian racing is most welcome,” Dr Forbes said.
“We are very pleased that we have been able to work so closely with Sky Racing to deliver these outcomes, both parties investing significant time and effort.
“We are looking forward to continuing this important working relationship on current and future joint opportunities in international jurisdictions.”
Sky Racing General Manager International Brett Gorman said Tasmanian racing has proved popular with overseas punters.
“The international audience has a great appreciation for Tasmanian racing. We’ve seen excellent growth in Singapore this year and New Zealand has delivered the biggest revenue,” Mr Gorman said.
“Night racing out of Launceston has proved particularly popular. It falls in the perfect timeslot for an international audience
“The record return for FY15 is fantastic and we look forward to continuing to work closely with Tasracing to build the profile of the State’s racing internationally.”
