Highly respected racing administrator and steward Des Gleeson has been appointed deputy chairman of the Tasracing Board.
The former chairman of stewards for the Victoria Racing Club, Mr Gleeson joined the Tasracing Board in January 2010.
He is also the former director of Integrity Services and chairman of stewards for Racing Victoria.
More recently, Mr Gleeson has consulted on a range of integrity matters around Australia, including the Northern Territory Integrity Review and a review of integrity systems in place at Harness Racing Victoria.
He also completed a review into safety of training operations at Melbourne Racing Club facilities at Caulfield and Mornington.
Tasracing chairman Dean Cooper said he was delighted that a person of Mr Gleeson’s abilities and experience had been appointed to the deputy chair position after serving on the board for six years.
“Des’ contribution has been important,” Mr Cooper said.
“As the thoroughbred code’s director, he attends Thoroughbred Advisory Network meetings and is Tasracing’s nominated director on Racing Australia, where he is the chairman of the Integrity and Welfare Executive Committee.”
