Tasracing will delete C0/C4 Claimers and replace them with Trainers Encouragement races. The decision is effective immediately.
C0/C4 Claimers commenced in November 2015. A mixture of six standing start and mobile start C0/C4 Claimers were scheduled from 5 November 2015 to 17 January 2016 at Devonport (x2), Burnie (x2), Scottsdale and Carrick. All were deleted due to a lack of acceptors.
Another four C0/C4 Claimers were scheduled from 26 January 2016 to 11 March 2016, but based on the poor response to C0/C4 Claimers, these races will be deleted.
The inaugural Trainers Encouragement race in Tasmania was scheduled at St Marys on New Year’s Day. The race was restricted to horses in the care of a trainer that had not trained a winner this season and no more than two winners in the racing season 2014/2015. Horses must have been in the care of the trainer for a minimum of two months.
The St Marys Trainers Encouragement race on 1 January 2016 appeared to be a success. There was a capacity field of nine acceptors, plus an emergency, and Tasracing received many positive comments about the concept of the race.
Based on the success of the Trainers Encouragement race and the failure of the C0/C4 Claimers, Tasracing will delete C0/C4 Claimers and replace them with Trainers Encouragement races. The only minor change to the conditions for Trainers Encouragement races is that trainers have no more than one win this season (it was no wins for the St Marys race) but preference in field selection will be given to trainers with no winners this season.
Trainers Encouragement races will replace C0/C4 Claimers at the following meetings. Full details are:
