Despite being beaten in his heat last week, star Victorian greyhound Hooked on Scotch has drawn to make amends in the Group 1 Ladbrokes Hobart Thousand final over 461 metres in Hobart on Thursday night.
The Jason Thompson-trained youngster finished second to Grey Ghost in his heat but as one of the three fastest second placegetters, he scraped into the final.
Hooked on Scotch drew box four in his heat but he snared box two in the final and it has proven to be a big enough edge for bookmakers to install him the $2.60 favourite.
The Jeff Britton-trained Grey Ghost impressed from box six but he has drawn awkwardly again in box five in the final, so he is at a very backable $9.00 with Ladbrokes to take out the final.
The quickest of the five heat winners Tiggerlong Tonk (25.55) for Victorian trainer Correy Grenfell has drawn well in box seven while Devonport Chase winner Stop Line will wear the pink vest and is third-favourite at $5.50.
Champion trainer Ted Medhurst managed to secure berths with the two best in his kennel at the moment in Stanley Gordon and Raging Ralston and they are quoted at $6.00 and $7.00 respectively to win the final with Stanley Gordon to start from box three and Raging Ralston next door in four.
Atley Quick from the Sonia Martin kennel has drawn the coveted inside box and as a quick beginner he will be in it for a long way, so his quote of $13.00 may be value while the rank outsider is Leica Prayer ($26.00) that was the slowest of the five heat winners (25.98).
