Tasbreeders provide an important update regarding the TASBRED Thoroughbred Breeding Incentive Scheme.
Tasbreeders wants to ensure that during these current tough times that the TASBRED scheme can continue to be a shining light for our industry with funding secured for the scheme when racing resumes.
Importantly, once a return to racing has commenced, the inaugural running of the $50,000 TASBRED 2YO & 3YO races (originally scheduled for 3 May) will be re-scheduled. Initial discussions have suggested a move to the spring (Sept/Oct) which will provide the opportunity for trainers to target these races. These races will be amended to a 3YO & 4YO race for this year only, prizemoney will stay unchanged at $50,000 each.
“There is no doubt TASBRED has giving the industry some new positivity over the past 18 months. We see the TASBRED feature races as an important part of the new TASBRED scheme and feel it is really important to give owners and trainers the best chance to target these races.” Tas Breeders Vice President David Whishaw stated.
The TASBRED review group are also aiming to deliver as many TASBRED bonuses as practically programmable when racing resumes.
Tasracing CEO Paul Eriksson said “Re-scheduling these bonuses will hopefully provide an additional incentive for connections of TASBRED eligible horses to be ready and target these races once a racing recommences”.
“We understand the shutdown period has already placed considerable economic pressure on many owners, breeders, trainers and jockeys and the bonuses will ensure that connections are maximising returns when winning a bonus race,” Eriksson said.
The TASBRED nomination deadline for 2018-born foals has also been extended from Thursday, 30 April to Thursday, 30 June 2020.
The TASBRED Incentive Scheme sees $1.54 million in bonuses on offer to eligible 2YO, 3YO and 4YO horses, distributed across 72* races which include two TASBRED only races with prize money of $50,000.
