The committee and members of the Tasmanian Pacing Club have approved the renaming of the club to the Tasmanian Trotting Club Inc. It is a return to the past with an eye on the future.
The Tasmanian Pacing Club was formed in 1979 following the merger of the Southern Tasmanian Trotting Association and the Hobart Metropolitan Trotting Club. On Thursday 24 May 1979 the Inaugural Committee Meeting of the Tasmanian Pacing Club was held at the Royal Showgrounds.
CEO Steve Devereux said the club believed the new name was not only good for its future but also better reflects its history.
“Our racing has always been known to the regular person in the street as the trots,” he said. “Nationally there has been a recognition of this and a number of studies have shown people recognise the ‘trots’ and not pacing or harness racing.
“The club has been instrumental in reviving the Mini Trots in Tasmania for the younger generation of our participants. These kids will grow up going to the trots.”
The revival of Trotting Races in Tasmania has also been heavily supported by the club. National figures show the trotting gait to be a large growth area of the industry.
The Tasmanian Trotting Club is fully supportive of the continuation of trotting in Tasmania well into the future as an area of growth in both horse population and betting turnover.
Aldebaran Park has joined with the Tasmanian Trotting Club to help it achieve this growth. Aldebaran Park’s sponsorship is the biggest individual sponsor of the club since the last Interdominion in 2006. Aldebaran Park will be the naming rights sponsor of the following:
- $10,000 Hobart Trotting Cup on 3 February 2019.
- $14,000 Tasmanian Trotting Championship on 16 March 2019.
- All trotting Races held by the Tasmanian Trotting Club.
- Sponsorship of the Aldebaran Park Mile rate at Tasmanian Trotting Club meetings.
- Sponsorship of the Aldebaran Park mobile barrier in Hobart.
Triple M Hobart will be the naming rights sponsor of the following races:
- $25,000 Hobart pacing Cup on 3 February 2019.
- $75,000 Tasmania Cup to be held on the 16 March 2019.
Triple M will also partner with the Tasmanian Trotting Club in promoting the Team Teal Ovarian Cancer Charity evening to be held on 16 March 2019.
