Elderslie Horse Care and Spelling, conducted by well-known horsewoman Sue Streit, of Elderslie, near Brighton, is one of Tasmania’s foremost standardbred breeding nurseries and has been a major benefactor of the industry.
Sue, who founded the stud on a picturesque 160-acre undulating property in the Southern Midlands in 2011, has been involved with horses throughout her life.
She has stood a number of high-profile American stallions over the past eight years including Stonebridge Regal, Time Stands Still, Artesian, Sutter Hanover and Ifihadyourluck.
Elderslie Horse Care and Spelling is also a leading semen station for stallions based on the mainland and New Zealand.
“I have also stood Arabian horses at stud and have been heavily involved with pleasure horses,” Sue said.
“I love the foaling downside of the business most of all. We had a 100 percent record this season and have foaled down more than 200 mares in a relatively short time.”
Sue is offering one of the largest drafts at the 2019 Tasmanian Harness Yearling Sale to be held at Carrick on Saturday, February 16.
The consignment comprises a colt and a filly by the very successful Stonebridge Regal – both with 2×3 cross to Artsplace – and a filly by the Governor’s Cup winner Sutter Hanover.
The Stonebridge Regal colt is the first foal out of the Dream Away mare Gun Filly, a winning half-sister to the multiple Tasmanian classics winner Cloudy Delight.
“He’s a leggy, athletic individual with a beautiful temperament,” Sue said.
The lovely filly by Stonebridge Regal is from the Golden Slipper Stakes and Mother of Pearl winner and Evicus and Bandbox placegetter Step Up And Play.
While the statuesque Sutter Hanover filly is out of the eight-win mare Princess Sophia, a granddaughter of the former smart Tasmanian racemare Regal Gail.
