Tasracing notes the update released earlier today by the Minister for Racing, Felix Ellis, regarding the proposed north west coast harness and greyhound racing tracks to be built adjacent to the Devonport Airport.
The Tasracing Board recently wrote to the Tasmanian Government indicating that the total anticipated cost of the proposed project had increased from the initial assessment of $18 million to an estimated $38.6 million, including the cost of purchasing the 27ha construction location.
While the government is considering our correspondence, the Minister has asked for additional information about the projected price increase. Tasracing has committed to provide that information as soon as possible.
Importantly, the Tasracing Board remains committed to developing this facility and will work closely with the Tasmanian Government on its development.
Meanwhile, you may be aware that at its 9 October meeting the Latrobe Council approved our Subdivision and Development Application.
The Council’s decision followed a recommendation by the Council’s Planners to approve the proposal. The project will now be subject to the standard two-week appeals process.
Tasracing will provide further updates as the appeals process and discussions regarding project cost progress.
