Melissa Maine, the studmaster of Faithful Park stud, Latrobe, has been a strong supporter of the Tasmanian Yearling sale for several years.

A member of a respected northern Tasmanian trotting family, Melissa is offering two superbly bred yearlings at this year’s sale to be held at Carrick Park on Saturday, February 15.

Both are the first foals out of well-performed racemares.

Lot 13, a brown gelding by the former USA 3YO of the Year Well Said, the sire of Group 1 winners Speak No Evil and Lady De La Renta, is from the Bettor’s Delight mare Itz Gemmas Delight.

Raced and trained by Maine, Itz Gemmas Delight won 10 races and was placed in the Bandbox, Blue Bonnet and the Tasmanian 3YO Fillies Championship for $56,652 in stakes.

Furthermore, Itz Gemmas Delight is a member of the same family as the dual Inter Dominion heat winner Devendra 1:52 ($483,544), the Group winners Queen Carey, King Carey, Benediction and Faithful Gabby and Tasmania’s current star three-year-old Kohanah.

“He’s a well grown, athletic type with a lovely temperament,” Melissa said.

Her other offering is Lot 16, a neat, compact black filly by the ill-fated import Hurrikane Kingcole, Australia’s leading first crop sire last season and whose stock includes Youaremy Sunshine (Vic. Youthful and VHRC 3YO Cup) and the Group 1 placegetters Our Balou and Venus Jujon.

Miss Ruthless, the dam of the filly, totted up 11 wins in four States, earned $84,052 in stakes and took a mile record of 1:58.

She hails from the same tribe as the high class NSW pacer Tricky One ($204,513), the NSW Sires Stakes 2YO champion Flite Dynasty, the Tasmanian Derby runner-up Ellington and others.

The Well Said gelding is eligible for Tasbred and Vicbred, while the Hurrikane Kingcole filly has been nominated for Tasbred.
