Tasracing will commence a search for a new chief executive officer immediately following the resignation of Vaughn Lynch.

Tasracing chairman Dean Cooper said Mr Lynch had resigned for personal reasons.

“Vaughn made a significant and positive contribution to Tasracing and the broader Tasmanian racing industry,” he said.

“He oversaw two code funding allocation increases during the current financial year.

“Following an initial 6% code funding increase earlier in 2017/18, a further $1.24 million funding increase was announced to be distributed across all three codes of racing.

“These funding increases were possible thanks to improved turnover on Tasmanian racing through the commercial decisions taken by Tasracing.

“As a result, total prize money for the industry in 2017/18 will exceed $23 million.

“Importantly, the increased code allocation amount will be higher than the 2014/15 figure which required Tasracing and the Tasmanian Government to introduce a code allocation reset.”

Mr Cooper said Mr Lynch did an outstanding job actively and directly engaging with as many industry stakeholders as possible given the obvious need for Tasracing and the industry to work closely together.

“He also implemented internal structural changes at Tasracing designed to refocus the team to deliver better outcomes for the industry,” he said.

Mr Lynch said it was a difficult decision, but it was important that he put the interests of his Victorian-based family first.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Tasmania and am very proud of the achievements the organisation and the industry have made since my appointment,” he said.
