Return to racing planning

Friday 17 April 2020

FRIDAY 17 APRIL

Today the Minister for Racing The Hon. Jane Howlett MLC, Tasracing CEO Paul Eriksson and representatives from the three racing codes met in Hobart to review a plan for a return to racing.

Chaired by the Minister, the meetings were very productive, with discussions on a range of initiatives including regionalisation and wide-ranging race day health protocols.

The plan sets out timeframes for a phased return to racing, allowing the quickest possible restart once a decision from the government on a return date is announced.

The goal of the plan is to demonstrate to government and its health advisors that racing in Tasmania can be re-started safely for racing participants and the wider community.

Additional industry consultation will be conducted early next week, with a final plan set to be presented to the government thereafter.

Ongoing weekly meetings will be held between the Minister, Tasracing and Industry to monitor progress on this plan.
